I moved to Junior High
School number 226 Jakarta on September 1ST, 2015. My previous school
is in the same district with it. I never know that this school is an inclisive
school, serve the disability student s in their class.
None told me, this
situation before I teach in class. On
the first day teaching here. I found something different from my previous
school. On that day, on the first period I taught in 9.4 class, There was a
yang lady, she sat on the first row on the left corner of the class. Her seat next
to teacher table. When I taught I felt bad, I thought Why did on of my student,
didn’t want to pay attention to me. I came next to her, I found her note book
was not the same with other, the line on the book was very big. Her friend said
to me that she is low vision. At the end of my class read the questions for
their task. It was very amazing she could write, every question correctly.
On the third period I
taught at 9.2 class. I took the absent, there was a girl student really attract
my attention, she always called, “Mam … mam, …
mam, …”, many time. She really
attracted my attention. When I stated teaching, I showed my material by using
LCD. Suddenly she stood up, and came to the front. She pointed a word on my
slide, she asked how to say and the meaning of that word. I could not
understand what she said. One of her friend came to her and asked her to sit
down. She didn’t want. Her friend told to me what she wanted. It seemed to me
that her friend was shy to make the new teacher knew that there was such kind of student in this class.
When I taught for the
last period on that day I taught at class 8.8. This class was on the first
floor. I found one student with her wheel chair. She didn’t want to stare at me
when I tried to look at her eyes. “Oh, my God, will I teach in this school. Why
should I?” I was so sad. I have been being teacher since 1997, but I never
taught the disability students.
I
didn’t know that in SMPN 226, there are disability students. The fact that, in
SMPN 226, they have been teaching variety disability students since 1993. Wow …
I couldn’t imagine, they have done a job with full of heart. I think it is not easy to teach in the class
which has the disability with different disability.
I
do appreciate to all teacher in SMPN 226. I think not all people can do this
difficult job. Why do I say this, after teaching for more than three months, I
found the math teacher made her test special for the blind student. She uses a
tool to make the blind student to imagine the picture that she made.
It
was not easy the teacher made one of student to join national math competition. He
was the first winner. It was one example
of result teacher did her job with
heart.
